A Day in the Life of Your Child at Kings Mountain Elementary School
Immerse yourself in a day in the life of your child at Kings Mountain Elementary School (KMES). As the day dawns, your child arrives amidst the majestic redwoods of the Santa Cruz Mountains, stepping into an environment that marries nature and education seamlessly, inspiring them at the very start of the school’s day at 8:05AM. The beauty of this unique setting immediately enriches their day, kindling their curiosity and excitement for the learning journey ahead.
Our multi-age classrooms (K/1, 2/3, and 4/5) provide a unique blend of individualized attention and instruction. Our dedicated teachers and aides stand ready to cater to your child's academic needs, creating an environment where every question is welcome, and every idea is celebrated. These multi-age environments also serve as incubators for leadership skills. Older students coexist with their younger peers, learning new material while simultaneously mentoring and supporting the younger learners. This peer-support teaching model empowers every student, building a dynamic, intergenerational community of learning.
Interludes from classroom learning see your child playing amidst the towering redwoods. These breaks provide the perfect balance between structured learning and free play, nurturing the emotional well-being of our young learners. Once refreshed, they delve back into learning, with an enriching roster of activities scheduled at least once a week.
Our instruction stretches beyond the traditional subjects, introducing your child to the intriguing worlds of science, art, environmental stewardship through the HEAL program, and even culinary arts. Our Kings Mountain Associated Parents (KMAP) is instrumental in supporting these enriching programs for all grades, broadening our students' horizons.
At KMES, we are committed to fostering a nurturing environment that prioritizes social and emotional learning in and beyond the classroom. Our comprehensive Second Step curriculum promotes empathy and an anti-bullying mindset, equipping students with vital skills for understanding and managing emotions, empathy, relationships, and responsible decision-making. Additionally, we offer the impactful Changing Perspectives program, which fosters disability awareness, advocating for the inclusion and respect of all. Furthermore, we celebrate cultural diversity and engagement through enriching activities that our students actively participate in, such as the celebration of Chinese New Year and our annual Stone Soup lunch and performance. These diverse educational programs and activities are designed to support your child's intellectual and emotional growth, instilling a deep appreciation for the unique qualities that each individual brings to our community.
After a fulfilling day of diverse learning experiences, your child can join the on-site Venture Free Foundation's Recreation Center (VFRC) program after school lets out at 2:15PM. Here, under a safe and caring watch, they learn outdoor leadership and social skills, playing amongst the redwoods with their school friends. You can pick your child up from this after-school haven anytime until 6 PM, offering flexibility for your family's schedule.
But above all, your child's day at KMES is wrapped in the warmth of a supportive, engaged community. The Kings Mountain School and the larger Kings Mountain Community are dedicated to fostering an atmosphere of engaged learning and holistic development. Every day at KMES, your child is not just a student but a valued member of a thriving, nurturing community.
